Word or Scrievener

It is totally a personal point of view how a writer wants to write his/her novel for ebook or paperback. It is important to get into the work fastly without any disturbances being caused while writing the novel. So here, we will look at the two most used softwares by authors to write their novel.

Microsoft Office Word

Microsoft Office is the most famous and the default editor of Microsoft Windows. It is preferred by wide range of authors all over the world for it's easy and user friendly interface.

Pros -

  1. It is a WYSIWYG editor which means typically you will get the output of what you are watching it on screen
  2. It gives a wide range of fonts styles, sizes and is transparent towards editing.
  3. You can edit your book as you want. No matter how fancy it may look but you will be satisfied with your work at one point of time.
  4. Easy to use header and footer controls

    Cons -
    1. It gets harder to proof read and edit your works as you will have to write the whole book in a single document.
    2. You won't be able to divide chapters seperately into seperate documents and that makes everything messy.

    Scrievener

    Pros -
    1. It is specifically made for writing books and magazines.
    2. It helps to divide the book into chapters and put them into different documents.
    3. It even has a name generator and allows to create seperate documents for character design.
    Cons -
    1. Editing the book interior and designing it isn't a piece of cake
    2. It is not a WYSIWYG editor, so you won't be able to track the excact look of the book.

Conclusion - It all depends on the person how he/she wants the book to look like. Scrievener may not be easy to use for a rookie but MS Word can. MS Word has been a first choice among many authors but Scrievener is a fast growing software with a huge userbase.
